We had a wonderful waitress and the total experience outweighed the negative.and we will be back. My companion really enjoyed his McAllister Platter and everything with it. The downside of that was that the seafood au gratin tasted fabulous while it was hot, but with the cool breeze and taking a few minutes for my salad, when I got back to the entree it lost the flavors I had originally tasted and got cold and lumpy, so I didn't get to enjoy as much of it as I had wanted. I wanted to eat my salad so put aside my seafood au gratin for a few minutes for that purpose. My companion ordered the McAllister Platter which was a fried seafood combo with two sides as well. The Seafood Au Gratin has crab, scallops and shrimp in an au gratin mixture. Seafood Au Gratin, along with a side salad and vegetable as the second side. We could have been seated immediately inside but wanted the experience of the water and outdoors. Since there were only two of us we had quite a wait for an outdoor table but enjoyed the breeze and view so it didn't bother us much. We love the water and ambiance of the Intracoastal Waterway and Fish Tales has both. Hopefully,the service issue was just due to a bad night and others will have a better experience.We drove from Savannah, for some reason having never been here before, and it was worth the drive. In conclusion, due to the lack of attentiveness, lackluster food compared to price and the ridiculous cost of a draft beer, that was the first and last time we will visit Fish Tales restaurant in Richmond Hill, GA. That was completely my fault as no price was listed for beer there and I didn't ask before I ordered. Not only were they smaller than I expected, just 2 of those ended up costing me over $12. I assumed it would be around $4 or $4.50 like other restaurants. I also should have asked the price of that drink (I actually order 2). What I got was a short, maybe 10 oz, plastic cup's worth. Again, they were still okay despite the simplicity. It was a very simple set of tacos for $12. You can also order with chicken instead of shrimp. They contained a flour tortilla, slaw and 3 shrimp. In regards to the food itself, the price was expected to be a little high and, as with most restaurants like that, you don't get a whole lot for your money. Maybe that was just because the seemingly popular outisde was populated a good bit. The food took quite some to finally arrive. The twitter of birds and tourists faded into background music for my admiration of. I DO NOT feel that the virus pandemic had anything to do with service at this restaurant as there were plenty of servers versus the tables filled. We ate at Richmond Hill on a patio overlooking the French Broad River. Again, there were enough servers in our area to easily cover the few occupied tables including ours'.
Staff moved around like they had a lot going on amd none seemed happy (there was no good vibe about the place). I'm not sure when/if we would have been taken care of had I.not done that. I actually had to ask the hostess in that area, that was maybe 7 or 8 feet directly in front of us and watching us constantly as we sat drinkless for 30 minutes, if anyone was going to take our order. In some restaurants, any server would see someone sitting there and ask if anyone has served them yet. That was only because a server who apparently doesn't cover our area was asked to serve us. Great spot on the marina, you feel like youre on vacation when youre really just out for dinner. We waited about 30 minutes before anyone decided to take our drink order. Food and service is average, but you come back for the atmosphere. The area we were seated in had about 4 tables in use when we arrived. The restaurant socially distanced inside, like other restaurants, with every other table available. My family and I went there on a Thursdau night.
